Inside: The top ten ideas for quality wooden toys for kids.
It seems toys are a dime a dozen these days. They are very easy to access and cheaply made. And at our house, they just seem to multiply. If you are like me, you are looking for quality made toys that are not only fun, but educational, too.
I have discovered that wooden toys are fun, educational and very durable. Kids love to play with them and they don’t seem to multiply as fast as plastic toys, if you know what I mean. Plus, they are better for the environment. All wins in my book!
Natural Baby Company is one of my favorite places to find quality toys. The wooden toys I recommend in this article can all be found on their website. You can also access them by clicking on the images and links provided.

Top Ten Wooden Toy Ideas
#1 Blocks
My son absolutely loves to play with blocks and says he wants to be a builder when he grows up. One of the sets he plays with the most is similar to this Plan Toys Creative Blocks Set.
This set is great for building towns, buildings and castles.
If your child is more into building roads, bridges and tunnels, I recommend this set. It’s made from high quality beech wood and can easily complement any other wooden block set your child may already have.
#2 Puzzles
Next to blocks, my son (and my daughter) absolutely loves to play with puzzles. I have found that wooden puzzles are more durable and higher quality than cardboard puzzles.
These Animal Puzzles are made of rubberwood and can be used for more than puzzle play. Use the animals for characters in a story or other playtime fun.
If you are looking for puzzles perfect for babies, try these clutch puzzles. One teaches your youngster about farm animals and the other one teaches them about a construction site.
These puzzles have wooden knobs that make it easy for your baby to grasp.
#3 Games
One of the wooden toys my kids love to play with most when they visit their grandma’s house is a pounding game similar to this one. This Rainbow Pound-a-Peg Game includes a wooden hammer and colorful pegs that can be pounded into holes on a wooden frame. If your kids are like mine, they will spend hours playing this engaging game.
Bowling is a classic game that is timeless and fun for both kids and adults. You will no doubt join your kids in rolling one of the wooden balls to knock over the pins in this Natural Bowling Set.
#4 Vehicles
This toy truck is perfect for loading and unloading the three cargo blocks that come with the truck. It is a great way for kids to transport blocks they want to build with.
Kids can sort and stack the pieces from this Tram Set anyway they would like. Each car has three magnetically interchangeable parts. This vehicle set also includes three characters that can ride in the cars.
#5 Sorting Toys
Sorting is a fundamental skill that all children need to practice and master. Your child will have a blast sorting by shape with these natural wooden shape sorter boards.
Another fun way for young children to sort by shape is with this beautiful wooden Cubos Original Shape Sorter. The toy box can be open and closed and the toy shape inserts can be stacked. Who doesn’t love multi-functional toys?
#6 Stacking Toys
Introduce your toddler or preschooler to puzzles with this Sabo Stacking Pyramid. Your youngster will love manipulating the graduated stacking rings in this conical tower. Use it to decorate your child’s playroom or nursery on the rare occasions it isn’t being played with.
This Natural Stacking Tower is a great way for your child to engage in open-ended play. There is no right or wrong way for this tower to be assembled providing your child with endless design and constriction possibilities.
#7 Rattles
If you are looking for a non-toxic affordable rattle for your baby, I recommend the Plan Toys Baby Key Rattle. It is made of sustainable rubber wood and is specifically designed for your baby to grasp and manipulate.
Another affordable rattle by Plan Toys is the Bell Rattle. It includes four wooden beads designed to stimulate your babies auditory skills.
#8 Balls
The most popular and versatile toy of all time (in my opinion) is the ball. It is used in so many sports and games because it can be rolled, thrown, kicked and tossed. Introduce your young child to balls with Grimm’s Small Pastel Wooden Balls.
#9 Play Sets
Kids will love to practice counting and number skills with this Count With Me Play Set. This set comes with 10 number boards and 55 circular wooden coins that can be stacked to help kids easily see the amount each number represents.
If you are looking for high quality wooden toys, I recommend this Wooden Woodland Critters Play Set. There are 11 different forest animals and three different types of trees included in this set. The beautifully crafted pieces make it worth the money.
#10 Musical Instruments
My kids love to pretend to play the drums. This beautifully designed drum comes with a mallet that has a rubber head. What a great way to cut down on the noise, but still allow your kids to pretend they are in the band.
All kids love xylophones and this wooden one doesn’t disappoint. It is designed with eight colored bars and includes a holder underneath for the mallet.
